.A STRONG FRONT WILL REACH THE BIG ISLAND TONIGHT BRINGING SNOW AND
STRONG WINDS TO THE SUMMITS.

...BLIZZARD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH LATE
TONIGHT...

SNOW AND WINDS MAY PRODUCE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ON THE BIG ISLAND SUMMITS
TONIGHT. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 6 INCHES AND 30 TO 40 MPH SOUTHERLY WINDS
ARE POSSIBLE.

A BLIZZARD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FALLING AND/OR
BLOWING SNOW WITH STRONG WINDS AND EXTREMELY POOR VISIBILITIES.
THIS CAN LEAD TO WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AND MAKE TRAVEL VERY
DANGEROUS.

they do get snow on the summits.  nice find though.  that is awesome.  i did hear something about a cold ULL hanging over Hawaii.

actually...there used to be skiing possible in the peaks of Mauna Loa.  I was in college at UH in 1983 and had planned a trip for spring break.  Just prior to setting it, the volcano was forecast to erupt and was considered too dangerous for any activity.  Sure enough, it did blow in 1984.  I believe it still has lava flow today.

Actually, when I was in Maui at the peak of Haleakala (10,000 foot summit) the temps were in the 30's and they occasionally get snow. They told it us it gets cold up there and that we should dress in layers. I didn't listen and was the only person up there (out of a couple hundred) wearing shorts.

Wow.  You just don't equate Hawaii with snow, even though there are mountains.

I never knew it could snow in Hawaii even up in the mountains. Learn something new today. :)
