Fairbanks snow is disapperaing fast with upper 40's temps. My history of following fairbanks weather is they have a pretty fast and very steady warm-up to spring weather with temps constantly reaching upper 40's and 50's during Apri and 50's to 60's in May. It's usually a very steady upward progression. But this 47 temp is very fast and won't hold. I haven't checked but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a record high. After seeing these folks with steady -30 to -50 temps this must seem like heaven up there.

Metfan - this camera was a great find! I'm interested to see their 22 hour long day (24 hours of no night as it only goes to dusk up there)and sun angles.

The weather (climatic wise) seems pretty interesting there. What have you noticed pattern-wise for this winter?

Brett,

Their snow period is usually mid November thru December when they get 20-40". Up there they pretty much hold it all. After that it's brutal cold, ice fog and tiny snowfalls of 1-3" at times (and they have 40/50-1 ratios). So the place is a frozen desert. March starts a very steady progression up with it being warmer each week and April up there is often better than it is in parts of the US, particularly norrthern Maine. Summers there are warm with a lot of 70's and a few 80's. It can reach near 100 in rare instances. A friend of mine was up there when the temp reached the mid 90's for 2 straight days.

This winter has featured brutal cold with weeks of steady -30 to -50 temps. Some areas in central alaska got near -70!

Metfan gets the credit for the cam.

Apparently they really shattered their record high. Per this story 45 had broken it and they were at 47 when I made that first post on the thread. They may have been even higher than 47 at some point. But +47 after days on end of -50 must feel like 80 degrees.

Does nn unusually quick warm-up like that up there signal any kind of pattern that means anything for weather in the NE?
