GENEVA - Obesity contributes to global warming, too.

Obese and overweight people require more fuel to transport them and the food they eat, and the problem will worsen as the population literally swells in size, a team at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine says.

This adds to food shortages and higher energy prices, the school's researchers Phil Edwards and Ian Roberts wrote in the journal Lancet on Friday.

"We are all becoming heavier and it is a global responsibility," Edwards said in a telephone interview. "Obesity is a key part of the big picture."

At least 400 million adults worldwide are obese. The World Health Organization projects by 2015, 2.3 billion adults will be overweight and more than 700 million will be obese.

Why would obese people need more fuel for transport? O_o

They're embarrassing themselves now...enough already. Even if their claims turn out to be true, these environmentalists are turning a LOT of people off from their cause by constantly shoving this stuff down our throats. What are we supposed to do? Stop living?

I won't buy it either... That's just wrong I guess... sad.gif

Next it will be..."Don't eat Mexican food because all the flatulation is causing global warming!" When will it end?

this is just to funny. of course its the london people the ones who claim there always skinny it because they starve themselves.LMAO
LocalOnthe8s
Agreed. This makes no sense whatsoever.

Well in theory it does make sense. The more weight, the more energy you need to move them.

Actually it's common sense. I'm not saying it's causing global warming but you can't argue the fact that the heavier people are, the more energy it takes to transport them in a car, plane, etc.

It'll stop when Al Gore realizes that the only way to control heat on earth is to control the cycles of the sun.

The radiative forcing due to changes in solar irradiance for the period since 1750 is estimated to be about +0.3 Wm-2, most of which occurred during the first half of the 20th century. Since the late 1970s, satellite instruments have observed small oscillations due to the 11-year solar cycle. Mechanisms for the amplification of solar effects on climate have been proposed, but currently lack a rigorous theoretical or observational basis.
Stratospheric aerosols from explosive volcanic eruptions lead to negative forcing, which lasts a few years. Several major eruptions occurred in the periods 1880 to 1920 and 1960 to 1991.
The combined change in radiative forcing of the two major natural factors (solar variation and volcanic aerosols) is estimated to be negative for the past two, and possibly the past four, decades.

Thus without anthropogenic forcing, the Earth would be cooling.

Actually you have a point there...some factors in Global warming is not our fault..I mean like you said the cycle of the sun. I remember when I was in high my professor said as year goes by the sun is getting hotter until it change its color.
