That is serious. Just like them thinking we are due for major hurricane.

It's scary enough that there are active faults in our area that are due for activity. But what's more, Indian Head Nuclear Power Plant sits on the bull's-eye of where to faults intersect. That's pretty scary.

Haven't scientists been saying this for years? I know it's been at least the early 90s.

The last Major major Hurricane was a Cat 3 or 4 the 1938 Long Island Express, it was thought a Hurricane like that came around once every 70 years. Well I believe we are at year 75 or so, so they have been saying we are overdue for quite some time now.

So the area is "due" for both an earthquake and a hurricane.

Hopefully we will not see a major earthquake anytime soon, but the threat of a major hurricane in this area really concerns me.

It's really not the actual number of years that makes you due. You could have 3 in 20 years and then not another for 190 years. That's why it's an average.

Yes they have, it makes for a good story. I know one thing, worrying about a major earthquake around here is very low on my worry list. happy.png

The main fault are out in the Atlantic Ocean between the USA and Europe. Would that cause a Tsunami here? God, I hope not. I read back when the deadly Tsunami struck a few years ago, that the mountains are slowly sinking down in the Canary Islands, and that if that was to happen the water would rush up the Atlantic Ocean and Eastern Seaboard. You have to pray to the Father God that things like that won't happen.

I'm in the highlands area of NJ and I carry earthquake insurance on my home. However. I don't know of anyone else that does.
